Easy Homemade Granola Recipe

Homemade granola is a healthy, comforting, and most of all delicious treat. When you buy your granola from the store you are most likely purchasing granola that is high in sugar, has more fats and oils then needed, and is filled with unneeded ingredients.

Making this granola is super quick and easy! What I love is this is just the base, meaning  you are able to change things up by adding in different flavors for different batches. I will also tell you this makes your house smell just amazing.  

 * Ingredients *
Makes 16 servings 

  • 4 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup wheat germ
  • 1/2 cup flax seed meal
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds 
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 1/2 cup water
 * Directions *
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F

1. In a large bowl, mix together all dry ingredients: oats, wheat germ, flax seed, brown sugar, almonds, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl whisk wet ingredients: oil, honey, vanilla and water. Pour the wet ingredients over the dry and mix until blended. 

2. Spread in a greased 9X13 baking pan.
3. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 20 minutes. 

4. Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container.

After you've made the granola, the options are endless as to what can be done with it. 
Yogurt parfait
 Eating plain handful as a snacking
morning cereal with soy milk
sprinkled over ice cream
in energy balls
 Oh my, I'm loving it this way to much right now
