Since I have been off of work for the past two weeks, I have had a lot of free time to relax. When I first found out I was going to be taking three weeks off of work, I freak! If you know me at all I am a person that always need to be doing something, I like to stay busy. But I have to say this leave has been kinda nice. I have had time to think and read and just re-group. My life plan got stirred up a little and this was my time to revaluate what I can be in control of and what I need to let happen on its own.
For this week I am coming up with my Sunday Sayings from the book Collateral by Ellen Hopkins. Ellen Hopkins has been one of my favorite authors since high school. I have read ever book she has written and She always leaves me thinking after reading one of her novels. One thing I really enjoy about her books is her ability to pull off a story done in poetry.
Collateral is a love story of Ashley and a marine, Cole. Ashley becomes torn between first love and the war.
One night her best friend and her went out and they both meet men training for the military. Ashley's at first was apprehensive but their relationship becomes heart felt and full of love.
This love goes on for five years and survives several deployments. Through this time Ashley transforms and struggles to make it with out alcohol and pills, this controls her constant fear. Cole is all in and desperately wants Ashley to marry him, but when she meets another man she starts to questioning her love for him.
I really like how she alternates from the past and present. It lets me see how Ashley and Cole grow throughout the five years. This let me love both these characters and hate them all at the same time.
